Will Sucker Punching Someone You Don't Like Stop Fascism?
I can't believe that I even have to address this issue. The answer to the title question is "No".
Someone attired in black came up and sucker punched a man speaking in the street. A video was taken and has gone viral. I am amazed that some of my friends seem to think that if you punch enough people, you can prevent fascism.
Fascism is not a white supremacist spouting off on the street. Fascism is the end result of capitalism, where it seizes control of the state apparatus, and uses it to further loot and enrich the capitalist class. It relies on nationalism, militarism and division of the working class. It cannot be stopped by punching an individual in the face. That is absurd. Fascism relies on the acquiescence and compliance, or, at least, the apathy of the majority of the working class. That is why the spectacles are provided, from the glorification of the military in the movies and at the mass meetings such as football games, or the mass demonstrations of the women. The right wing who blames immigrants or black people for their falling living standards are delusional, but so are the people who march around the White House waving signs, who go home feeling warm and fuzzy and very proud that they sure showed Trump who is boss. Sadly, you have dug up another entire section of deluded Americans, who think that you can stop an entire system of oppression and war by punching a guy in the mouth. Do you not realize how that plays on TV? Do you not realize that the majority of Americans get all their opinions from TV? Do you not realize that most Americans firmly believe in the right of free speech, although most of them are very shaky on the concept? If you are really serious about fighting fascism you have to know that only a united working class can succeed. And that punching someone in the face for speaking just lost you a shitload of support.

Your Fear Proves Nothing
If a child is told there is a boogeyman out to get him, and he fervently takes it to heart, that is not proof of boogeymen. Even if the child is absolutely terrified, and has to have a nightlight, and won't go outside at night, and sleeps with a teddy bear....still Not Proof.
Americans on the Blue Team sneered for 8 years at members of the Red Team, holed up in their houses, clutching their guns, waiting for Sharia Law to be imposed, and the Blue Helmets to come snatch their guns and children away.
Yesterday, we had the spectacle of millions of women, terrified that their birth control would be snatched, and their pussies grabbed, marching all over the USA. And, even more bizarrely, around the world. Really? Do the women of London and Paris really think that Donald Trump is a threat to their birth control?
Since the election, we have been sternly told that, if people are afraid, then that is proof that there is reason to be afraid.
I have seen reports that someone's Muslim neighbor had to go to the ER, because she had an anxiety attack when Trump was elected. The Mexican classmates of another's high school student were crying that their parents would be deported. OK, as a bleeding heart myself, I am truly sorry that these people are so afraid. However, I refuse to take their fear as some sort of evidence based reality.
Same with your cousins in Latvia. I understand that, after years of propaganda about the imminent Russian invasion, your cousins are convinced that the Russians are out to get them. This, however, is not proof of anything. It just means that your cousins are susceptible to fear mongering.
Remember when we were told that the Iraqis were spreading anthrax through the mail? Remember the guy who took it to heart and wrapped his entire house in plastic and duct tape? How'd that work out for him? Remember how quickly the fear mongering was dropped when it turned out to be American anthrax, and not from Iraq at all? Was fear of Iraqi anthrax evidence that it was Iraq?
Remember, 2 years ago, how we were all going to die from Ebola? It was spreading exponentially, and it was a horrible, painful death. But, not enough to like, put up a quarantine, or anything. We were all going to die, but we didn't want to be non-inclusive or bigoted before we went.
Out here in Deplorable Land, (as the tolerant, inclusive Blue Team lovingly calls us), people were all riled up against al Qadeda, 15 years ago. They were ready to kill every Muslim in the world, all one billion of them. (Seriously, I was told that).
But, two days ago, our local paper printed an AP article about how horrible it was that the Russians insisted that al Qaeda in Syria not be part of the ceasefire. Yep, out here in Deplorable Land, we were told that the renamed al Qaeda Syrian branch was the best fighting force trying to overthrow the government in Syria, so it was absolutely outrageous that Russia was still targeting them.
See? People can believe anything, and then they can believe anything else. Before you get too worked up about what Fox News OR NPR tells you, step back and think about it. Watch what they do, not what they say.

ISIS is US
Two years ago, ISIS was rolled out as the new scariest terrorist group, ever.
Oddly enough, though, the Obamba regime refused to attack them, as they left Mosul with US tanks, weapons and ammo, and headed towards Syria. Obama informed us that the reason was that " al Maliki is not inclusive enough". Well, that was bizarre.
A few months later, we were treated to stories about how the US needed to go into Syria and start bombing ISIS, although aggressive invasions of another country are against international law.
From a Facebook post two years ago....Interesting report from Syria, from a commenter on another thread...."ISIL continues to attack Kobane with 15.000 militias, 40 tanks, 30 artillery and other modern weaponry provided by wealthy donors from Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia and other countries. And the YPG-YPJ guerrillas defend the city with AK47 and improvised and YPG-YPJ made weaponry for 3 years now. And the world does nothing, while desperate supporters and friends of humanity all over the world desperately seek ways to reach Kobane or to send supplies and support. Locals also report that ISIL heavy weapons and tanks are out in the open but not yet targeted by air strikes, and mortars are falling like rain on Kobane. Witnesses are saying dozens of ISIL tanks are in plain sight but the coalition forces are not hitting them. Immense anger and confusion over this. If they wanted to hit the tanks they are there in PLAIN sight!!!! Resistance appears almost impossible, which is leading to more desperate moves and immense sacrifices by the YPG-YPJ forces. A YPG soldier says: " Tonight the jets of the international coalition hit 4 empty positions of ISIS."
Here we are, two years later, in 2016. A little over 2 weeks ago, USAF war planes attacked Syrian soldiers defending the town of Deir Ez-zor, killing 62 immediately and wounding another 100, (20 of whom later died). Immediately after the attack, ISIS overran the airport. Only Russian intervention prevented them from stopping the nightly humanitarian aid supplies being flown in.
Two days ago, USAF war planes "accidentally" attacked Iraqi forces who had just driven ISIS from their town near Mosul, killing 20, and allowing ISIS to retake the town.
This, plus numerous documented cases of the USAF "accidentally" dropping weapons and supplies to ISIS makes it clear to me that the Obama regime has no intention of harming its death squads on the ground in Syria. Now that Russia has openly pointed this out, and refused to allow any more "ceasefires" that allow the terrorists to regroup and rearm, we wait to see what Obama's reaction will be. Is he really ready to potentially start World War Three, just to overthrow Assad?

American Exceptionalism
Americans do not feel entitled to food, shelter, pensions or health care. Citizens of other countries may be entitled to such things, but, by God, not us! Eat your bootstraps, if you're hungry. Sleep under a bridge, unless the Super Bowl is coming to your town, then get the hell out of there.
Americans DO, however, feel entitled to tell other people how to run their countries, and Americans DO feel entitled to overthrow other people's government, bomb them, and invade them and Americans DO feel entitled to taking over countries resources and seizing their assets.
Most Americans do not even realize that attacking other countries is a war crime. This article, from last year, is well worth reading again.
And this is a relevant quote...."To initiate a war of aggression...," said the Nuremberg Tribunal judges in 1946, "is not only an international crime, it is the supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."
And another thing. Americans supported the attacks on countless countries after WW2 because....''communism''.
But after the USSR was destroyed in 1991, they no longer had that excuse, so they switched to ''humanitarian intervention''.
They bombed Yugoslavia because ''Milosevich is killing his own people''.
They bombed Iraq because ''Saddam is killing his own people''.
They bombed Libya because "Ghaddafi is killing his own people''.
They are bombing Syria because ''Assad is killing his own people''.
Yet 1204 Americans were shot dead last year, summarily executed, usually on the streets, or in their own homes. Even children were shot or wounded.
Yet, I have not heard one American call for another country to bomb us, to protect us from the government. Not one.
And now we see that the people of Flint are being poisoned, yet I have not heard one American call for the bombing of Michigan, in order to ''save them''.
Why not?
Wouldn't it be ''humanitarian intervention''?

Under Our Thumb
Around Sept 14th,2015....''Germany surprisingly left the alliance formed together with the United States which intended to block Russia’s entry into the Syrian conflict.
Minister of Defence Ursula von der Leyen told Der Spiegel that she welcomed president Putin’s intentions of joining the fight against the extremist organization “Islamic State”. It would be a matter of mutual interests, she said.''
Around Sept. 18th,2015...''Volkswagen's emissions scandal could be far more painful for investors than BP's disastrous 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Credit Suisse (CS) estimates that the total cost to the company could hit 78 billion euros ($87 billion) in a worst case scenario. That's about 60% more than the cost of the Deepwater Horizon spill to BP (BP). ''
Oct. 2,2015....''We express our deep concern with regard to the Russian military build-up in Syria and especially the attacks by the Russian Air Force on Hama, Homs and Idlib since yesterday which led to civilian casualties and did not target [ISIS],” read a statement from the governments of the U.S., United Kingdom, France, Germany, Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. “These military actions constitute a further escalation and will only fuel more extremism and radicalization.”

Years ago, while in nursing school, I did a rotation at a mental hospital. I was sitting with a paranoid schizophrenic, one day, when he pointed across the large open common area, at a woman sitting with another patient.
"You see her? She's out to get me. But I'm going to get her first", he told me.
Wow, that was chilling. I imagined how it would be to be targeted by someone and you wouldn't even know it, until they attacked you, for no reason.
It took me more years to realize that the USA is a giant insane asylum, and that the inmates are deliberately made paranoid schizophrenic, in order to further the goals of our ruling overlords.
Vietnam is going to get us! Nicaragua is only a day's drive from Texas! Iraq is going to fly nuclear bombs to the US on drones! Russia invaded Ukraine and we're next! Americans are bombarded, daily, with propaganda designed to make us afraid of other people, and ready to kill them before they kill us.
Imagine being a citizen in one of the targeted countries. You have no idea, at first, that you are a target. Why would you be? You have done nothing. But then the bombs start to fall, and your family is killed, or forced out of your homes, to be refugees.
Medea Benjamin, of Code Pink, talked about going to Afghanistan, to a hospital filled with the victims of the US attack. One woman asked her "Who did this to me?" She told her "The Americans, from America". The woman said "What is America?" Like Americans, who have no idea where the countries are that they are bombing, she had never heard of our country.
Throughout the years, I have dealt with many more psychotic people and I know that you cannot reason with a person in full-blown psychosis. They are incapable of hearing reason or logic.
So, now the US is targeting, among others, Russia. Putin is baffled, and unable to understand how anyone could twist facts so much. "Doesn't anyone even listen to us?" he asks, plaintively. It is sad, watching a rational person try to appeal to logic and reason.
Sorry, Putin. Sorry, Russia. Americans are now so conditioned, so crazy, that we hate on command. It takes fewer and fewer weeks to work us up into a killing frenzy.
Charlie Manson never actually killed anyone, you know. He just inspired others to do so. That would be the function of Obama, Bush, Kerry and the talking heads on TV.

Identity Politics
Divide and conquer is the best way to keep the great masses of people from rising up and overthrowing the tiny minority who rule them. Keep us fighting among ourselves, tell us that differences of sex, race, sexual orientation, etc. are more important than the difference of who owns and controls the means of production, and the 1% can laugh all the way to the bank (that they own).
The left in America was smashed by the Palmer Raids, imprisonment and deportations during and after WW1, but rose again during the Depression.
Smashed by the American Inquisition, 1945-1960, when leftists were purged from unions, the media, education and government, it rose again in the 60s.
Smashed by COINTELPRO, murders and imprisonments, what was left of the left turned to identity politics.
If we fight among ourselves, lining up in our various oppressed groups, arguing over who is the most oppressed and angrily denouncing any potential allies from other groups as unable to understand our pain, since they have more privilege, the ruling class doesn't have to bother dividing and conquering.
But then came the Occupy Movement. We Are The 99% was succinct way of putting the class issue back on the forefront. The response of the ruling class should be instructive.
The talking heads on corporate media shrilly denounced the protesters, and their impudent emphasis on Wall Street, instead of Washington, DC. They ordered the protesters to go get their parade permits, and march around an empty White House on a Saturday, the way they have been taught to do. But the Occupy Movement ignored the marching orders. It spread to almost every big city and many small towns across America. It was smashed.
The Black Lives Matter movement arose in protest of the wanton police murders of Black citizens all over the country. The response of the police was to increase the numbers killed. Why? Shouldn't police departments all over the country have warned their officers to back off, at least for a while? Instead, they seem to have declared open season. This fans the flames of outrage.
So now we are well into the quadrennial election "cycle", and two of the corporate candidates openly discuss class.
Bernie Sanders has been attacked for his discussion of wealth inequality in the USA by being called "racist". Yesterday, August 8th, he was actually stopped from speaking at a rally by self-proclaimed BLM activists.
Donald Trump, in the first Republican debate, pointed out that he,as a rich man, has bought and sold politicians, who do what their donors tell them to do. He was openly discussing the fact that the capitalist class owns our government.
So what happened? Trump was immediately attacked....for being sexist. It was announced that he was disinvited to the next showing of candidates.
It doesn't get any clearer than this. You can argue about identity politics all you want, but you must not discuss That Which Shall Not Be Named....the fact that our country is owned and controlled by a small group of people, who are busily stripping it for parts.
