Conversation with a small town Democrat

I live in the biggest city in Southern Illinois. It's integrated and everything. We're so progressive.

I just talked to a woman who lives in a more rural town. Her husband is active in the local Democratic Party. She said that she was at a function and one of the party leaders slammed his hand on the table and said, "How am I supposed to tell my people to vote for a woman or a nigger?"

I asked her how the others reacted, and she said she was so shocked that she just stared at her plate and didn't look up.

I tend to hang out in the progressive parts of the blogsphere, and I dismissed talk of sexism and racism as outdated. Guess not.
